Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers, was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. After moving to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma enrolled at The Dragon School. Emma had a dream to become a professional actor when she was just aged six. She studied at Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford, an acting institute which offers classes for part-time students. Through a school play as well as the stage of a Stagecoach production, Emma was her role as lead actress at 10 and performed. The casting process began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was found by agents through her Oxford teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that following eight auditions they and Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's first film appearance came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film set records on opening day and weekend sales, and it was the most-recorded 2001 movie. The film was praised by critics who praised the film and particularly those who were young. The well-known British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performance as admirable. Emma was awarded five nominations for her outstanding performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress in the Film.
